About Efraimson Electric, Inc.
Your Electricity Service Experts
From Humble Beginnings
Our History
Way back in 1948, a big event happened in northeastern South Dakota – rural electricity became available. Wesley Efraimson was 19 years old at the time and their farmstead was getting wired. As Wesley was in need of a job, the man wiring their place hired him to help at the rate of fifty cents an hour. At that time there was no electrical test to obtain a license; any person who did electrical work could get a license if someone recommended them. So Wesley obtained his Class B Electricians License. Later he took a correspondence course on fixing electric motors. Soon he had started his own small business from his home four miles west of Bryant.
In 1995, Wesley’s son, Jeffrey, started helping with the electrical business. Later that year, two of Wesley’s boys – Jeffrey and Clinton – decided to take a four-year night class in Watertown with the IEC on electrical wiring. After completing the course, Jeffrey worked full time in the business while Clinton wired part-time until 2002 when he started full time. Wesley’s youngest son Brandon decided to further his education by going to Mitchell Technical Institute for two years. There he obtained his degree in electrical construction and maintenance, starting full time with the business in 2003.
On September 27th, 2001, Efraimson Electric became a corporation. They then had a little office and shop out on the farm that they worked out of. With Janice (Wesley’s wife) and Nancy (Wesley’s daughter) doing the book work.
On September 27, 2006, Wesley Efraimson passed away. The three brothers that had previously been working in the business purchased the company from their mother on January 1st, 2007. Jeffrey being president, Clinton the vice president and Brandon the treasurer. At that point, Efraimson Electric Inc. had 12 employees.
The fall of 2012 Efraimson Electric Inc. broke ground on the east side of Bryant to build a new office/shop and warehouse building as they had outgrown the shop and office out on the farm. On April 19th, 2013, the business moved into their new facility. Also in the year of 2013, the brothers decided to expand and hire someone to run the Aberdeen location.
On February 1st, 2016, Efraimson Electric Inc. purchased Cunningham Electric in Aberdeen SD. They moved the Aberdeen shop to the existing Cunningham building and continue to serve the customers from both businesses. Currently, they have 17 employees working in Aberdeen and 24 employees in Bryant.
Due to our customer base growing and meeting their needs, Efraimson Electric Inc. started up our Watertown location in April of 2022. Our Watertown shop is currently located at the east shop of Cabinet Concepts Inc. building. The Watertown location has been steadily growing and has also added a full time service tech to help meet the needs, Watertown is currently at 6 employees.
